A focused tool from a practical publishing workflow.

TextToDeck is built by Lars Jansen, the publisher behind Old Stack Journal. It came from a practical need: turning written updates into short videos without manually recording HTML animations and cleaning up exports.

01

Why TextToDeck exists

Written updates are often already clear enough to share. The slow part is turning them into a video format without opening a full editor, rebuilding the same layout, or manually recording a browser preview.

TextToDeck keeps that work focused: choose a reusable template, add structured text, preview it, render an MP4, and download it.

02

What it is meant to stay

The product is meant to be practical and contained. It is not trying to become a giant design platform, a scheduler, a template marketplace, or a general video editor.

03

A note from Lars

I built TextToDeck because I wanted a faster way to turn posts, build notes, launch notes, and product updates into short videos without doing the same recording and trimming work every time. The goal is not to make every kind of video. The goal is to make this one written-update workflow easier.

FAQ

Common questions

Is TextToDeck connected to Old Stack Journal?

Yes. TextToDeck grew out of the Old Stack Journal publishing and build workflow.

Why not use a normal video editor?

Sometimes a normal editor is the right tool. TextToDeck exists for the narrower job of turning written updates into short template-based MP4 videos.
